GLE 350 or GLE 450 Which Used Mercedes SUV Should You Buy

Buy the used GLE 350 if you want the GLE’s cabin, space and comfort at a lower purchase price. Choose the GLE 450 if stronger acceleration and a smoother six-cylinder engine are features you will appreciate regularly.

The 450 is especially appealing when comparable examples sit close together in price. It becomes harder to justify when getting the bigger engine means accepting weaker maintenance records, substantially higher mileage or a price that leaves little room for upkeep.

Equipment deserves just as much attention. A GLE 350 with the right comfort and driver-assistance options may suit you better than a more powerful GLE 450 without them.

This comparison focuses on U.S. gasoline GLE SUVs from the generation introduced for 2020, particularly the 2020-2023 and refreshed 2024-2026 models. The newer 2027 changes are explained separately. The GLE 450e plug-in hybrid, GLE Coupe and Mercedes-AMG models are outside the main comparison.

GLE 350 vs GLE 450 Specs by Model Year

The GLE 350 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the GLE 450 has a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. Both use a nine-speed automatic transmission.

U.S. model yearsGLE 350 SUVGLE 450 SUV
2020-2023255 hp; 273 lb-ft; no 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain362 hp; 369 lb-ft; 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance
2024-2026255 hp; 295 lb-ft; 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance375 hp; 369 lb-ft; 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance

These are gasoline-engine ratings. Do not add temporary electric boost and present the result as an official combined horsepower figure. Mercedes distinguishes engine output from electric assistance in its earlier GLE specifications and 2024 U.S. refresh announcement.

Also check the drivetrain. Earlier GLE 350 SUVs were offered with rear-wheel drive or 4MATIC all-wheel drive, while the GLE 450 used 4MATIC. The U.S. 2024 GLE 350 was 4MATIC-only; rear-wheel-drive 350 examples appear again in later model years. Match the drivetrain when comparing prices.

The first refresh arrived for the 2024 model year, even though Mercedes announced it in calendar year 2023. It brought revised styling, newer MBUX hardware and software, and mild-hybrid assistance for the 350. The two cabin displays remained 12.3 inches each.

What Changed for 2027

The officially announced 2027 GLE has another substantial update, including MB.OS and a standard MBUX Superscreen. The GLE 350 remains rated at 255 hp and 295 lb-ft. The GLE 450 retains 375 hp but increases torque to 413 lb-ft. Both come with 4MATIC.

Those newer figures should not be applied to a 2024-2026 used GLE 450. Mercedes’ 2027 U.S. announcement explains the revised models.

How Much More Does a Used GLE 450 Cost

In the listings checked, the 450 cost about $1,800-$5,700 more than the similarly aged and similarly driven 2022 GLE 350 examples. A close-mileage 2024 comparison put the difference at about $4,200. The six-cylinder upgrade is worth investigating before assuming it will be too expensive.

The table below simplifies the eight advertised vehicles into two model-year groups. These are small listing samples checked on October 27, 2026, not national market averages or completed sale prices.

Model yearGLE 350 4MATIC asking pricesGLE 450 4MATIC asking prices
2022$34,800-$39,952$40,477-$41,753
2024$45,770-$48,402$52,609-$58,396

For the clearest example, a 2024 GLE 350 with 39,435 miles was advertised at $48,402, while a 2024 GLE 450 with 42,729 miles was $52,609. The asking-price difference was $4,207, with the 450 showing slightly more mileage.

The higher-priced 2024 GLE 450 had fewer miles than the 350 examples, and equipment, history and warranty coverage were not matched across the sample. Treat these figures as a budget snapshot, not a fixed surcharge for the 450 badge. Compare similar mileage and the options you want, then include fees and immediate maintenance. Tires, brakes and overdue servicing can quickly reduce a cheaper 350’s saving.

Understanding GLE Trims and Packages

There are two separate choices: the engine model, such as GLE 350 or GLE 450, and the equipment fitted to that SUV. Premium, Exclusive and Pinnacle describe equipment levels on the refreshed GLE. AMG Line and other packages add a different set of features.

The prices below are original U.S. 2024 factory MSRPs for the GLE 350 4MATIC and GLE 450 4MATIC. They explain what the equipment originally cost, not what it should add to a used vehicle today. Do not apply them automatically to other model years.

Premium Exclusive and Pinnacle

2024 equipment levelOriginal added priceMain equipment
PremiumIncludedHeated front seats, MB-Tex upholstery, navigation, two 12.3-inch displays and surround-view cameras, among other standard equipment
Exclusive DX1$1,600Ventilated front seats, Burmester surround sound with Dolby Atmos, and augmented-video navigation
Pinnacle DX2$5,600 package price, plus required equipmentExclusive features plus massage seats, head-up display, upgraded LED headlights, rapid front-seat heating, temperature-controlled cupholders, AIR-BALANCE and MBUX Interior Assistant; also includes front-door logo projectors

Pinnacle’s $5,600 price is not the complete minimum upgrade cost. The 2024 ordering guide also requires the $350 MB-Tex upper dashboard and door trim, and excludes standard MB-Tex seat upholstery with Pinnacle. With the $1,620 regular leather upholstery, those items total $7,570 above the base vehicle. Do not add the $1,600 Exclusive price on top of Pinnacle.

For context, original 2024 base MSRPs were $62,650 for the GLE 350 4MATIC and $69,500 for the GLE 450 4MATIC, before destination. A 350 with Exclusive and the $1,950 Driver Assistance Package came to $66,200 before destination and other options, still $3,300 below the base 450. This illustrates why a better-equipped 350 can be a sensible alternative.

Other Packages Worth Checking

2024 package or optionOriginal added MSRPWhat it adds and where it applies
Driver Assistance DA2$1,950Adaptive cruise control, steering assistance, active lane assistance and related functions; available on both
AIRMATIC DC8$1,710Air suspension and adaptive damping; available on the 450, not the 350, in the 2024 guide; availability was limited
Acoustic Comfort DC5$1,100Heat- and noise-insulating laminated glass; offered on the 450, not the 350, in the 2024 guide
AMG Line Exterior DG1$3,150AMG body styling, perforated brake discs and a 20-inch AMG wheel choice; larger wheels cost extra
Night DC1$400 after AMG Line ExteriorBlack exterior accents and roof rails; requires AMG Line Exterior, making that combination $3,550 before wheel upgrades
AMG Line Interior DG2$3,400Nappa leather sport seats, sport steering wheel and AMG interior detailing; check compatibility with massage-seat equipment
Third Row DB4$2,100Third-row seats, power second-row adjustment and two additional USB-C ports; available on both SUVs
Winter PAV$450Heated steering wheel and heated washer system; available on both
Warmth and Comfort DB0$1,050; $575 with PinnacleHeated front armrests and rapid front-seat heating; lower price with Pinnacle accounts for overlapping equipment
Panorama roof 413$1,000Larger panoramic opening roof; separate from the standard sunroof
Trailer hitch 550$600Factory hitch and increased towing-capacity configuration; verify the vehicle's exact rating and equipment

Package contents, availability and prerequisites are described in the 2024 U.S. ordering guide. Confirm the original window sticker for the specific VIN. A package name in a listing is not a substitute for checking installed equipment.

AMG Line does not turn either SUV into a Mercedes-AMG model or increase its rated horsepower. Decide whether the styling matters enough to justify any premium and the replacement cost of the fitted tires.

Earlier Packages and the 2026 Change

Do not confuse the standard 2024 Premium equipment level with the optional Premium Package on earlier cars. For 2022, the Premium Package was $1,375 and bundled Burmester audio, surround-view cameras and a 115-volt outlet. Driver Assistance Package Plus was another $1,950. Confirm that both are fitted rather than assuming a 450 includes them.

AMG Line Exterior became standard on the U.S. GLE 450 4MATIC for 2026. It was a paid option on the 2024 450. Mercedes confirms that distinction in its 2026 U.S. model-line updates.

For everyday use, Exclusive and Driver Assistance are good starting points for a shortlist. Choose Pinnacle if you particularly want massage seats, the head-up display and its other comfort features. If air suspension is essential, check model-year availability and the equipment record before deciding between a 350 and 450.

Where the GLE 450 Makes a Difference Every Day

The 450’s strongest argument is how it delivers power. An inline-six has an inherent balance advantage over a four-cylinder, and the additional output gives you more acceleration to work with when merging, climbing or passing.

Mercedes estimated the 2024 GLE 350 4MATIC at 7.0 seconds from 0-60 mph and the GLE 450 4MATIC at 5.3 seconds. Those are manufacturer estimates for that model year, not guaranteed results or figures to apply to every used GLE.

If you regularly carry passengers and luggage or prefer a less busy engine sound under acceleration, the 450 deserves a test drive. If most journeys involve errands, commuting and steady cruising, the 350 may already provide all the performance you want.

Drive both on the same route if possible. Try stop-and-go traffic, an incline and a legal highway merge. Notice accelerator response, engine sound and transmission behavior. Find out whether you value the difference enough to pay for it.

Engine Smoothness and Ride Comfort Are Different

A larger engine does not automatically produce a softer ride. Suspension specification, wheel size, tire type and condition all affect what you feel from the driver’s seat.

On a 2024 GLE 450, AIRMATIC and Acoustic Comfort can add reasons to choose the vehicle beyond its engine. But a 450 without those options should not be priced as though they are included. Confirm the actual suspension on an earlier example rather than applying the 2024 option list backward.

If comfort matters most, drive over the kind of imperfect pavement you normally encounter. Check tire wear and ask for replacement prices in the fitted size. The wheel design you like in photographs may bring a trade-off in ride quality or running costs.

If another brand remains on your shortlist, our used BMW X5 vs Mercedes-Benz GLE comparison covers the broader SUV decision.

Maintenance and Reliability Which Is the Better Used Buy

Neither badge is enough to declare an individual SUV the safer purchase. An earlier 350 lacks the 450’s 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain, but the 350 gained mild-hybrid assistance for 2024. A recommendation to buy the 350 to avoid that hardware needs a model-year qualification.

Fewer components can change the inspection scope. They do not prove that every 350 will cost less to repair than every 450. Maintenance history, previous repairs and current condition remain essential.

Arrange an independent inspection with a Mercedes specialist. Include a diagnostic scan, fluid leaks, cooling-system condition, transmission operation, suspension, brakes and tires. On a mild-hybrid example, ask for checks of the 48-volt system and any related warning or repair history. Have air suspension checked if fitted.

One documented issue is NHTSA recall 24V207, covering certain GLE 350 and GLE 450 vehicles among other Mercedes SUVs. A potentially loose 48-volt ground connection under the passenger seat could overheat. Check the VIN and obtain repair documentation; this recall does not establish that every mild-hybrid GLE has that defect.

Should You Buy a Newer GLE 350 or an Older GLE 450

A newer 350 may offer lower mileage, more remaining warranty coverage or the 2024 refresh. An older 450 may deliver the engine you prefer without increasing the purchase price.

Start with the features you would miss most. If six-cylinder performance matters on every journey, a well-maintained older 450 deserves consideration. If you are satisfied with the 350’s response and place more value on equipment, condition or coverage, the newer SUV may suit you better.

Then compare what each vehicle needs next. Ask which services are due, measure tire and brake condition, and verify any warranty in writing. For fuel costs, compare the official rating for the exact year and drivetrain rather than assuming the four-cylinder guarantees a large saving.

When the Upgrade Is Worth Paying For

Choose the GLE 450 when you prefer its engine, its equipment matches your needs and the premium leaves room for proper maintenance. The modest differences in some used listings make it worth checking even if you originally planned to buy a 350.

Choose the GLE 350 when it already feels right on the road and the saving buys better condition, useful options or a more comfortable ownership budget. A well-equipped 350 is not simply a compromise for someone who cannot afford a 450.

No. The GLE 450 uses a turbocharged inline-six with mild-hybrid assistance. The 2024-2026 GLE 450e is a plug-in hybrid with a four-cylinder engine and a larger externally rechargeable battery. It needs a separate comparison based on charging access and driving habits.

No. Its mild-hybrid system recovers energy while driving and does not require external charging.

Do not assume so. On the 2024 GLE 350 and 450, Pinnacle and the $1,950 Driver Assistance Package were separate selections. Check for both if you want the comfort equipment and adaptive cruise with steering assistance.

Not automatically. On the 2024 GLE 350 and 450, Exclusive added ventilation, upgraded audio and augmented-video navigation, while regular leather upholstery was a separate $1,620 selection. MB-Tex and leather are different materials, so read the upholstery line on the window sticker.

For the same model year and SUV body style, the 450 does not move you into a larger vehicle class. Seating configuration still matters. Confirm a third row on the actual vehicle if you need it.

Enter the 17-character VIN in the NHTSA recall lookup. Ask for completed recall repair records as well; the lookup and service documentation provide different parts of the vehicle’s history.
